ᐅ It had been raining for two and a half weeks, causing water to seep into our insulation.

famlogDear readers of the house building forum,
For more than two weeks, rain has been coming into our dormers, which were completely open until yesterday (there is now a roof on top, but the sides are still open). Unfortunately, the rain did not only get into the rooms but also from above into the insulation (between the interior and exterior walls). The insulation was not covered until yesterday.
My wife noticed over a week ago that water is dripping from all three patio door frames above (unfortunately, she only told me yesterday).
Now I would like to hear your opinions on this. We are very worried that we will have to deal with mold later on.
Thank you very much for your responses!

Wegener SV14 Oct 2012 18:32In the case of mineral wool insulation, this situation is critical. It appears to have been installed in your building. Although the front side is treated, this insulation does not provide any protection against moisture coming from above.
Please inform the developer about this and let them know that you do not accept this condition as it is. Tell them to replace the insulation. If they refuse, inform them that you will only approve the handover with reservations and that you will have thermographic imaging carried out to check the condition of the insulation.
Alternatively, consider seeking assistance from an independent expert.
Best regards,
Jürgen Wegener

Wegener SV15 Oct 2012 06:46Knauf Insulation is a type of stone wool.
The problem with mineral wool or stone wool is that once it gets thoroughly wet, it no longer provides the desired insulation values. Drying it does not help; only replacement is effective.
