Are there any experiences or recommendations regarding the cladding of the roof overhang, which is 50cm (20 inches) wide? Wood or plastic panels?

I don’t know who is worse, those complaining about it or those who designed it. None of them are "worse."
The currently popular very "clean" design trend leads to disadvantages that affect more than just the owner:
- Challenge regarding the microclimate (heat retention from stone)
- Challenge in nature conservation (decline in species)
It’s all so uniform, so identical, so monotonous. I don’t like that—I prefer the world colorful and messy, a bit dirty or untidy, crooked and uneven. I find it cozy when you’re grilling sausages in sweatpants and flip-flops, drinking canned beer, and no one’s clearing away the dishes, while a portable radio plays Bob as the station. And cars should be unwashed, flowers allowed to grow wild and unchecked, kids drawing with chalk on the patio, the cat shedding its fur all over the sofa. If you know what I mean.

In your avatar, you have your house:
white plaster facade with white windows and a red roof – isn’t that monotonous, like many other bungalows?
The house is simply white and red. What else would you do with a stone house? Painting it bright blue just to stand out would be aesthetically off. On the other hand, we are trying to make the garden lively and insect-friendly, and we've been very restrained with paving. Of course, everything still needs to grow large.

On the other hand, we are definitely trying to make the garden lively and insect-friendly, and we’ve kept the paving to a minimum. Of course, everything still needs to grow a lot. But your garden is not run-of-the-mill, it’s a shame that it’s uneven, but thanks for the pictures!
Can’t you cover those L-shaped blocks?
