Our house was built in 2013... unfortunately, the rhombus-shaped cladding is not of the best quality, quite the opposite. The façade faces south, and the same cladding was used on the north side at the entrance, where it actually looks much better. Over the past few years, my husband has climbed the scaffolding twice to refresh the wood with some kind of stain or gel. ... The wood is too low-quality to just gray naturally; I believe it is spruce (unfortunately, during the selection process we only focused on price, not the wood quality. I constantly warn others about this in the forum).
Before we move forward with the new terrace roofing (regular readers will know what I mean), we want to replace the cladding with something that looks similar.
Any tips? We were thinking of WPC or a similar material for about 4.5sqm (48 sq ft).
Since today, we have a request posted on MyHammer.
What do you think?
What might the work cost?
Or does it not actually need replacing and is supposed to look cracked like this?

Well, it's just spruce. For 100-120 €/sqm (approx. $110-$130 per sq ft) it should be possible to replace it with stained larch, including labor. The bigger challenge will probably be finding someone for the part-time job, especially since it needs to be done fairly accurately.
Yvonne, seriously. The wood is completely intact. I don’t see anything in the photos, even when I zoom in with my fingers spread apart, that should concern you. Cracking is completely normal for spruce; it simply dries out and shrinks. If you don’t like the appearance, clean the boards with Netrol and then saturate them with Owatrol. Or use Remmers UV wood stain for exterior. This treatment will hold up well for you. I suspect you’re not in your twenties anymore either. K.

For 100–120€/m² (9.3–11.1 USD/ft²) it should be possible to replace that with glazed larch, including labor. The real challenge will probably be finding someone for a part-time job who can do it reasonably accurately. Larch? Then it will turn nice and gray, right? Then we’re set for good?
@Nordlys
Spruce... won’t we have problems with that eventually if we leave it as is? We definitely don’t want to go back up there again... my poor husband is over 60, oops.
