Hello,

we have purchased a plot of land near Stuttgart and submitted a building permit application. Unfortunately, the cost estimates keep increasing.
The project is a single-family house with a living area of 250 m² (2690 sq ft), including a double garage and basement, KfW40+ standard.

Can anyone recommend a construction company in the greater Stuttgart area?

Thanks in advance!

Both solid construction providers:

Otherwise, Härtter-Bau from Renningen was also very good, likable, and we had a good feeling with them, but they were somewhat more expensive. The same goes for AWS from Renningen, also good and transparent, but even more expensive than Härtter. Both are rather small companies but do a lot of work in the region.

Thank you. Because of your comment "corner is more expensive," I had not considered them further. What do you mean by "corner is more expensive"? Has that been offset by better features?

We didn’t really negotiate fully with either of them (because we had already made other decisions by that point), but Härtter’s price was quite reasonable. I’d say it was about 5% above their best offer, without having standardized every feature. The consultation was good, and I think on a personal level things would have gone well with Mr. Härtter. He also took us along to current construction sites in a very straightforward way, seemed to have nothing to hide, and in my opinion, the houses look quite high-quality.

AWS was about 5-10% more expensive. However, when we followed up asking about the somewhat higher price, we never heard back. That was a deal breaker for us and seemed unnecessary. They are currently building in Heimsheim as well.

Thank you all for your replies, and especially you, Markuss85.
A 5% difference is still acceptable; I was expecting something significantly higher. I have already inquired with both parties.

Here is a brief update:

Prefab House / Timber Construction
  • Albert Haus -> postponed
  • Schwabenhaus -> excluded/withdrawn
  • Hanse Haus -> received offer, looks "acceptable to somewhat expensive" at first glance, but still working on breaking down the scope of work and specifications
  • Bien-Zenker -> offer pending
  • Bittermann & Weiss -> offer pending
  • Fertighaus Weiss -> excluded
  • Talbau Haus -> appointment scheduled for late February

Solid Construction Providers
  • Haus der Handwerker -> received offer, price looks acceptable so far. Breakdown of contents and scope of work still pending. (Yes, I am aware of the opinions about HdH)
  • FERMO -> excluded – clearly too expensive
  • Hauser Massivbau -> appointment scheduled for early March
  • Köhler Wildberg -> appointment scheduled for late February
  • Härtter Renningen -> appointment coordination initiated
  • AWS -> appointment coordination initiated

Have the appointments already taken place? What was your impression?

Unfortunately, the appointments with neither AWS nor Härtter took place. However, both made it clear to us over the phone that starting construction this year is no longer possible due to their high workload.

I called Härtter several times, and I was told that they would get in touch to schedule an appointment. Just yesterday I followed up again and was informed that they would contact me but could not yet say when.

I only called AWS yesterday because we had a few other construction projects ongoing. The person in charge is on vacation this week and will get back to us next week.

A brief general update:
With another provider, after an initial consultation, it became clear they were not interested in the project. Even after several phone calls, their response was very dismissive, and they even ended a call abruptly. We did not have any special requirements nor were we unfriendly. We are currently reviewing how to proceed, whether another sales consultant might take over or if we will write off the company completely. Once this is resolved, I will provide an update on which company it was.
