Good evening everyone,
my husband and I have been discussing for some time now which color our house’s exterior should be. It is a single-story house with a (converted) pitched roof, with the eaves side facing the street. The options are:
1. “Standard new build color combination”: roof, windows (and front door) anthracite, facade white
2. Roof anthracite, windows (and front door) white, facade gray. Similar to the example shown (found on the Pinterest page of Contract Vario)

House with dark tiled roof, solar panel, gray facade, wooden terrace, and garden furniture.

Here are the advantages I identified for both options:
1: More premium appearance?
Standard look, generally preferred? – Higher resale value?
Dark front door less prone to showing dirt
2: Cheaper (white windows cost us about 20% less)
Facade may appear cleaner for longer?
Windows don’t heat up as much (popping/cracking – which we experienced in our last house with dark windows)
More eye-catching look

What are your thoughts?

@kaho674 We're not that far yet.

I will look for the test images we took of our house later.

@Curly You're right, the color really changes the style. Actually, our style is more modern than country, but the house itself isn’t very modern (we are renovating).

Our house is sky blue with white windows and doors, and dark red, almost brown bricks.

By the way, a double wire mesh fence, gravel garden, and an evergreen shrub in the front yard would look great next to your house.

Have you ever thought about not being like everyone else? I know, I know, it sounds unusual at first... but once you get started, it’s fun.

And you can tell guests who come for the first time, "the blue house on the left" (actually just "the blue house" would be enough)...

Modern house with red tile roof, large windows, and wooden terrace.

What do you think of this combination? (berschneider (.) com)

Another way to create attractive accents is by using a darker base color on gray tones, for example. (In this picture, there is no base at all, which is rather unusual, isn’t it?)

Not at all, a light red roof quickly looks dirty, and the color appears grimy, but as always, it’s a matter of personal taste.

Best regards,

We agree on that; we both don’t like any colors other than white, black, and gray.

But doesn’t a dark roof also quickly look dirty if moss or similar growth develops on it? See the older neighboring building in the background.

Also, isn’t it common nowadays to install a copper strip on the roof ridge to prevent moss formation?
