Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

Finally, a kitchen where something is happening.
Tell me, is that a beer tap on the counter?

That is the Krups SUB.
Make sure to check beer brands and prices before setting something like that up.

To be honest, I don’t understand you @ypg. One time (like with our kitchen) you write:

to me, it already looks too “messy” even without any activity

even though that’s just how it normally looks when there’s activity, and I didn’t tidy up especially for the photos back then. And here, with the last kitchen, you’re happy to see a kitchen where something is going on.

Yes, that’s the SUB. But it’s quite expensive, not really for heavy drinkers or parties. I enjoy strong and aromatic beers with 7–10% alcohol. In the evening, you can pour 0.1 or 0.2 liters (3.4 or 6.8 fl oz) into a wine glass and drink it like a glass of wine. Then the prices make more sense. Whether I buy Lagunitas on TORP (that’s what the kegs are called) or in bottles (if you can even get them), the price is about the same, but it definitely tastes better fresh on tap.

The kitchen rarely looks this tidy, especially the counter, which feels more like a sideboard than part of the kitchen...

To be honest, I don’t have it clearly in mind right now, but it’s very likely that your kitchen or its condition looked different. In the end, it doesn’t really matter how I or anyone else perceives your kitchen. It’s a very subjective matter: when only “high-gloss kitchens right after installation” are posted here for a while, a kitchen filled with life afterwards tends to be seen more positively. On the other hand, a very tidy kitchen can be more pleasant to look at.
Don’t be upset.

I took another look: aside from the fact that I described your kitchen as very refreshing and great, what bothered me was the clutter in one of the pictures, where you look from the hallway and have the kitchen on the left, with the dining area behind it.

By the way, it’s also true that sometimes you want to give someone praise here. The kitchen design at fragg isn’t exactly what I would compliment, but still the kitchen radiates a lot of coziness. That’s not the case with many kitchens here (objectively, mine probably falls into that category as well).
I also notice this during “The Perfect Dinner” shows: many with their high-tech kitchens or large islands don’t actually have the kind of kitchen that invites you to cook and stay. The small, older kitchens often have more charm and feel less sterile.
