Hello,

we are currently choosing tiles for the bathroom.
We have seen floor tiles measuring 80x80 cm (32x32 inches).
However, I find it hard to imagine how this would look in a room of 13 m² (140 ft²).

Does anyone have tiles of this size in their bathroom, and how do you like them?

Thanks and regards

I currently have 60x60cm (24x24 inches) tiles in my small condo bathroom. The bathroom is about 4.5m² (48.4ft²). It looks great. Large tiles especially work well in small rooms. Better to go bigger than too small.

We also have a small bathroom with a shower, about 6.5 m² (70 sq ft), and we installed 60x60 cm (24x24 inch) tiles. It looks great; I can hardly imagine a smaller space looking nice, but that’s a matter of personal taste. The tile salesperson told me the same… large tiles work really well in small rooms.

It also always depends on the layout of the room.
With 13m² (140 sq ft), you could manage with only 2, 3, or 4 tiles of a larger size. Depending on the room’s shape, this could also look very good.
In our guest bathroom (2m² (22 sq ft)), we also have 60x60cm (24x24 inches) tiles. In the main bathroom, we have the large ones (320x160cm (126x63 inches)).

We have approximately 15 sqm (160 sq ft) for the bathroom and use 60 x 120 cm (24 x 48 inches) tiles, partly also halfway up the wall...

That’s your personal opinion. I would call that a matter of taste. Unlike

where my mind immediately hears typical sales pitches: that’s always popular # that’s how it’s done nowadays # that looks great on you # that makes you look slimmer – sales talk. I find myself agreeing much more with

Because especially in a small bathroom, it really depends on the proportions of the floor area how well object and grout line positions can be brought into harmony. Besides, I think that the color contrast between tile and grout influences the perceived pattern busyness just as much as the tile size.
