Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

The upper cabinet configuration is not final yet. The depth is a small issue we're still working on. Currently, it's only available with a depth of 40cm (16 inches).

We had the same problem with the corner next to the oven. In the end, we decided against an upper cabinet and solved it this way.
Kitchen with two built-in ovens in the tall cabinet, coffee machine on the countertop beside it.

The roller shutter cabinet is 40cm (16 inches) deep and has 3 shelves plus the countertop space. It’s become my favorite cabinet.

Very practical, we wanted that too. But it was dropped because of the appearance; it just looks awkward.

It really does look odd when the unit is completely closed. But I usually keep it either half or fully open and have my wine glasses and so on inside, which looks good.

Well, I don’t think it looks "stupid." It’s probably a matter of personal taste.

@Chris2511. If you don’t really need the closed upper cabinets to the left of the fridge/freezer, I would just go with an open shelf there. Visually, I think that would look better than upper cabinets that don’t quite match the ones below and to the right.

Joking around or what!?

That’s where, among other things, the refrigerator / oven, etc. are located

Maybe "stupid" isn’t the right word…

I think it doesn’t look that good because it reminds me more of office furniture. But it was the most functional option for us. Open shelves were not an option for me. Still, I’m really happy with the piece and would definitely choose a similar cupboard again in this kind of setup!
