Hello,
I’m just starting with the house planning and wondering where to get bricks or offers for bricks.
Can you order them online like most other things, or do you have to buy them locally because they are so large and heavy?
I’m interested in bricks like the Leipfinger-Bader 42.5 - UNIPOR W08 - Plan (247 x 425 x 249 millimeters (9.7 x 16.7 x 9.8 inches)).
Best regards,
Peter

Dear michert,
thank you for caring so much about the shell construction. No one really knows why this thanks doesn’t quite come sincerely from my heart.

Yes, I plan to do the shell construction myself. I have a friend who is a bricklayer, and he can help me a little. I also have a friend who knows how to spell anesthesia. If you manage to build a house with just two ingredients (a bit of help and 42.5cm (17 inches) solid bricks), you should definitely write a bestseller about it afterwards.

Peter Hausbau6 Jan 2020 11:27Dear 11ant,
Thank you as well for your concern about my project.
I did not ask here how to build a house, but where to get affordable bricks.
If for you it is a requirement to provide proof of masonry skills in order to buy bricks, then please just do not post instead of undermining my question...
It seems to me you are a psychologist. Maybe you should get involved in a psychology forum?

Usually, your shell builder supplies the appropriate bricks.… which I would interpret in two ways: first, “that’s their job (professionally), so you don’t need to worry about it,” but also, “they partly rely on the margin from the materials (and if you cut into that, you become less attractive as a customer to them).”Hopefully, you didn’t expect the answer here to be something like, “With the Shell loyalty card, you can get the 42.5 cm (17 inches) bricks this month at the price of 36.5 cm (14 inches) ones at Baustoff Müller”?

Peter Hausbau6 Jan 2020 13:42No, I don’t need it this month yet... so if Shell bricks are available next month, then bring them on.
At the moment, no tradesperson in southern Germany would probably accept a job that isn’t highly profitable. If they do so anyway, then they are making a mistake...

I’m still not quite sure what kind of answer you were expecting: “My buddy Günni will get the brick for you as a reimport from Liechtenstein, so you can save on VAT,” or are you looking for a specific porous brick price comparison app?

The building materials trade is simply organized the way it is. As a consumer, you typically get the worst prices through wholesale suppliers. Try going to BayWa (which, for us, is a building materials supplier and not just a DIY store) and ask for advice. You might get a discount tier if you also buy reinforcement, paving, etc. Don’t underestimate construction site logistics and transportation for building materials. From my perspective, this is the reason why the wholesale structure has survived into the internet age.
