From what I know so far, the weakening is too great. Where does your knowledge come from? Are you a trained structural engineer or just guessing from the internet?

But our structural engineer says it is negligible. If the professional says "yes," but you think you know better, what do you expect from laypeople here?

boxandroof27 Dec 2019 19:45The general contractors here usually use 22, but my structural engineer wanted 24. Whether 20 would be sufficient should be determined by the structural engineer.
Thank you very much for the RM. The permitted total height above the finished floor level is fully utilized. Therefore, thicker ceilings will be challenging.
I also find 20cm (8 inches) hard to imagine, especially considering the upper reinforcement layer and concrete cover.
I will point out this issue once again...
Otherwise, it will have to go into the screed. But even there, with a total build-up of 15cm (6 inches), there is hardly any space...
