ᐅ Staircase – Which Material and Design?

I need to decide on the appearance and materials for the staircase. It’s a double quarter-turn staircase in a terraced house, connecting the ground floor to the upper floor. Are there any “no-go’s” or some tried-and-true tips for this type of staircase?

The staircase will be enclosed and built over a WC and some storage space.

Now I have to choose between various types of handrails and how they are installed, the materials (beech or something else), and the colors (it can be painted in any color).

My main concern is that the staircase doesn’t look bulky in the hallway and appears somewhat elegant or visually pleasing. Is that easier to achieve with vertical balusters or with ones that run parallel to the staircase?

Are there any basic design rules (like “dark walls make the space look smaller” or “white clothing makes you look bigger”)?

I know it’s really a small detail. Choosing the staircase has been the hardest part so far.

Thanks for your replies. So, it comes down to personal taste and budget. Bummer. The proposed staircases are just okay. Apparently, you can only get a nice railing if the staircase is straight because otherwise, the newel post still has to be there for the staircase to turn around and to attach the railing to.

The standard included in the price is only beech wood with horizontal balusters (like the white staircase) and vertical spindles (picture 2). I like the black metal railing. It’s also available with horizontal bars, but unfortunately, only as an extra cost. Stainless steel bars also cost extra. For the black railing, the staircase would have to be straightened at the bottom.

When you see all the staircases side by side, the standard spindles do look a bit old-fashioned. But is it really the same if you only have one staircase at home and don’t see the others? Wow, this is difficult.

For him, that wouldn’t be a proper staircase. It has to be made of wood. Not very conclusive.
And that’s why I don’t understand why it’s noted here at all.

But is that also the case when you have only one staircase at home and don’t see the rest?

I don’t think so. It matters if the staircase and living area are in the same room; otherwise, the railing should be accepted.
We have a steel stringer and don’t regret it.
