Hello everyone,
I am currently considering which video door entry system to buy for our single-family house on a hillside.
I find the video feature very useful since our living and dining area is located in the basement, so you don’t have to go upstairs every time the doorbell rings.
There are many versions on the market, and unfortunately, they vary significantly in price.
Do you have any recommendations on which ones to buy?
What do you think about this one?

Traumfaenger1 Jun 2019 22:41For the sake of completeness, I have tried Dahua. The installation is certainly not plug-and-play (like the German brand names that are twice as expensive), but it works reliably afterward and, unlike the alternatives mentioned above, can be set up so that not all data passes through foreign servers. I am now very satisfied with the system (doorbell, additional cameras, switch, etc.).

KampfKraut20 Sep 2019 00:40Hello everyone.
We have a mailbox/intercom system from Renz. It also includes the option to install a camera.
My question is: can I simply install an inexpensive webcam instead? We already have a camera system in the house that manages the cameras via an IP address. In theory, I should just be able to connect another camera to our network, right?
But which model would be suitable if I don’t want a camera that costs more than €100 (about $110)?

In principle, yes, but:
- I can’t think of any camera designed specifically for this (flush mount) at the moment. Otherwise, you would just mount a "normal" one over the opening.
- The ones I know are all part of doorbell systems (e.g., Gira, Mobotix...).
- All of them are more expensive than your budget.
- Legally, this is not so simple. Doorbell systems usually only take a picture or provide a short stream when the bell rings. With a "normal" IP camera, you would be recording continuously.
- You are not allowed to film public areas. This means your doorbell camera must not be aimed at the street or sidewalk.
- As always, clear signage is required to inform that video surveillance is in operation.

KampfKraut20 Sep 2019 17:32The legal aspect is not an issue – with a camera like this, only our yard is visible.
Does a standard webcam have the right "angle" if you want to "observe" someone up close with it? After all, visitors are standing at an angle next to the camera?! oops:
