ᐅ What needs to be finalized regarding the exterior walls before the structural shell is built?

To the experts among you:

Our walls are being built with sand-lime bricks. Now we are wondering how long and how flexibly we can decide on the facade. So far, an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) plus plaster is planned. A curtain wall facade could probably also be added later. But what about facing bricks? Does this need to be planned before the structural shell is built? What are the technical considerations?

Thank you for your help with this question.

You will need to assess that for yourself.

Can thin bricks really match the look of real brickwork?
Thin bricks are real bricks, the exact same material—just thinner for gluing. Functionally, there are differences, but visually, there aren’t any.

Issues with making late changes to the facade mainly involve windows and doors. The additional layers need to be accounted for in the dimensions.

Basically yes, but many high-quality facing bricks often don’t come in thin brick form… What are the functional differences? Can it generally be said that the quality of a real facing brick wall is significantly higher?

Does a facade not need visual approval? Before submitting the building permit / planning permission application? I would say yes.

In our case, it does not.
