Hello,

I would like to know your opinions on the topic of photovoltaic systems.
The plan is for a house with 140 sqm (1507 sq ft) with a south-facing roof.
Is financing such a system worthwhile?
What are your personal experiences in this area?
Do you have to feed the electricity into the grid, or is it allowed/possible to use it yourself?
Are there any special incentives or subsidies available?

What disadvantages does installing such a system have (please don’t mention “appearance”)?

But isn't it true that photovoltaic panels, as long as they are not covered with snow, can actually produce more energy on a sunny winter day than at 35 degrees Celsius (95°F) in summer? My electrician explained that the modules heat up so much in summer that their performance drops.

The panels themselves would indeed perform better at freezing temperatures. However, in winter the sun is lower in the sky. Then it depends on the tilt angle of the panels. Also, the days are simply shorter in winter. A sunny summer day with -20°C (-4°F) would be ideal, but unfortunately impossible.

In winter (December and January), you get about 10% of the yield compared to summer (June/July). I once saw an analysis of a large system over several years, and it was quite disheartening. For my 8.7 kWp system, at about 70% efficiency, that would roughly cover the base load for hot water without heating or an electric car.

Last month, 64% self-consumption with 5.4 kWp, including storage, heat pump, and air conditioning.

How do you manage that? Did you connect the heat pump to the regular electricity meter?

Ask me how you do that too, I managed 68% last month without a storage tank, using just a heat pump and air conditioning. A storage tank is definitely worth it.

I’m also wondering how you manage that. Without a buffer tank, with a heat pump and air conditioning, I had 68% last month.
Having a buffer tank really pays off.

Same question for you: how many kW do you have on it, and how do you handle the heat pump?
