ᐅ Choosing Tiles – Where and How to Start?

Hello everyone,

We need to choose the tiles for our house, but the developer limits the number of different types.

We have already visited the showroom and seen and touched all the options in person.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to best combine different tiles in certain areas.

The bathrooms in specialist stores sometimes look great, but they are not very helpful because they are often too extravagant, impractical, expensive, etc.

Is there a catalog with common tile combinations somewhere, or where did you get your inspiration from?

Thanks and have a great weekend!

We visited the tile showroom (atala), where there were many full bathroom displays completely tiled. I wouldn’t have been able to decide based on small tile samples; I always need to see them on a large surface. Maybe you could choose something from the tile showroom instead of the ones the general contractor offers? We immediately liked something there, although I had feared beforehand that we wouldn’t find anything.

In our area, for about 6.8 years now, almost exclusively anthracite has been used for bathroom and kitchen flooring. In new houses with condominiums, it’s 99% – I’m willing to bet on that.

It’s simply timeless!

What tile sizes and price range are included by the developer?
White wall tiles are almost always a safe choice, usually not full-height, combined with gray or anthracite-colored floor tiles, which is timeless. These can be complemented by colored wall accents, which are easier to renovate compared to tiles if you ever want a change! You can also install strips from the floor tiles, for example, vertically in the shower.

Thank you for your replies – the selection process has long been completed. In the end, we chose *drumroll* warm gray tiles (for both floor and walls).

We experimented a bit with the Vigour bathroom planner. While it doesn’t offer many tile options, it was sufficient for someone like me without much imagination to get a general idea... Whether it looks good, I’ll be able to report in 2 years.

I would disagree. The trend really only started around 2010. It’s mainstream, and in 10 years it will be removed because it’s delicate and dark. Take a look at the work of your more experienced colleagues.
