Hello everyone,
on Friday we have the notary appointment where we will purchase our plot of land.
The only problem is a significant slope. Which PC software would you recommend for house planning that allows us to input the slope, preferably by marking elevation points distributed across the entire plot?

Many thanks and best regards

Do you want to build the house with an architect using separate contracts or with a general contractor?
First, create a list of rooms. Designing can initially be done on paper or with basic software.
How steep is the sloping site?
A sloping site is usually not ideal and requires a professional design.
Tell us a bit about the plot and the desired house.

I’m afraid you’ll need a bit of imagination and remember which parts of the floor levels have an embedded position. Once the geometry complexity—that is, what “3D” means in this particular case—reaches a certain level, you exceed a limit: not only does the software price increase, but its availability, ability to run on standard consumer PCs, and ease of use for untrained users declines. Compromises in the resolution of the visualization are then necessary, possibly down to a blocky graphic style like Minecraft. Also: such software doesn’t inspire creativity—so it’s better to start planning roughly on paper first.

If you as laypersons have already identified the slope, it’s basically no longer a problem: those who tend to struggle with a slope are usually homeowners who would describe their plot as having “no slope.” Or where the spatial understanding of the council members and building authority staff is insufficient, resulting in practically impossible eave height requirements in the development plan. Otherwise, the main challenge with building on slopes is faced by those who insist on building without a basement and want a huge terrace.

Hello everyone,
thank you very much for the information. We actually bought the plot on Friday, and now, as you recommended, we meet every evening armed with pencil, eraser, and graph paper to plan our house. The designs are not presentable yet, but I will get in touch at the right time to ask for your opinions.
Best regards

Good luck! Feel free to order plenty of house catalogs from prefabricated house suppliers. The pre-designed floor plans are often not a bad starting point because they really work. Complete custom designs by us amateurs often end up with wasteful hallways, strange diagonal walls, 1.30m (4 ft 3 in) wide walk-in closets shaped like tunnels, or the bathroom located directly above the living room, making it impossible to adjust the drainage pipes.

Sure
Here are some slopes

Sample catalogs cannot be applied 1:1 on slopes
Nevertheless, they provide good reference points.

How much elevation difference do you have in your building plot?
