Dear forum members,

Unfortunately, our architect made a mistake in a very awkward spot in the house, in the main bathroom upstairs, where in my opinion symmetry and harmony are especially important.
From the utility room below, the exhaust duct of the gas condensing boiler runs straight up the gable wall right in the middle of the room. This creates a protrusion in the center of the wall. The general contractor’s idea is simply to build a drywall partition up to the eaves side. This results in a “half” wall.
I have been trying to figure out the best way to conceal this area for some time.

On the adjacent eaves wall, the toilet and bathtub are to be placed (as well as a radiator).

I have simulated various options in 3D.
Basic idea:
The drywall partition should either be functional or visually appealing and not look like a closed “half” wall.
I would preferably like to create a shelf behind the bathtub. The drywall partition next to the toilet could be used to install a concealed cistern module. Furthermore, I would like to pick up the height of the shelf and also create shelving within the partition, preferably with shelves above, which are not shown in the 3D simulation—please imagine these shelves.
I have also simulated other options without shelving, as well as different arrangements of the toilet and bathtub.
Currently, I like option 1 or 6 best.

Perhaps you have a great idea on how to make the best of this situation.

Thanks in advance!

Haha, okay, it almost looks like it was meant to be that way. It’s surprising how quickly you get used to something like this. Looking at it more closely now, it was quite a blunder. I’m not sure if I would let it slide again with the knowledge I have today. Well, it’s just a guest bathroom...

Then the fool who planned this should redo the ceiling opening and have the pipe go through the exterior wall already on the ground floor, then run it up in front of the roof overhang. Unfortunately, finishing it in the attic isn’t possible because it would be in the reveal area. But redirecting it with three bends is simply not appropriate for a new build aesthetically.
I agree with you on the latter ☺️

We had also considered leading it outside already on the ground floor, which would give us an external chimney, though that wouldn’t look very nice either. But of course, it is an option.

By reveal area, do you mean that it’s too close to the upstairs window? The distance is about 30 cm (12 inches) to the reveal.

It really looks good and exactly as intended! I could also imagine it like this above my washbasin.

Here are some recent photos from today.
The boxing for the entire exhaust pipe (including the offset) will be about 50cm (20 inches) long!
There were also ideas to box only the part along the wall and then separately box the offset, but the plumber and I don’t think that would look better with another corner in the middle.
The toilet is now positioned according to this boxing, so it has moved fairly close to the bathtub.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to reach anyone at the housebuilding company yet, but I don’t think the situation will change anymore.
The offset is technically necessary, and repositioning the pipe probably should have been addressed much earlier.

In the drawing in post #1, I had confused the casing for the photovoltaic conduit and the exhaust pipe; the first one couldn’t pass through here because the higher-density bricks of the reveal are in front, which are needed due to the lintel bearing. It would still be possible, but more complicated.

Yes, that can hardly be improved. Absolutely fantastic, as the chairperson would say during carnival.

Yes, it hardly gets any better than that. As a session president might say during Carnival season: wonderful, simply wonderful.
Of course, you can also take it with humor. But it is still a pity for a new build that it looks like this.
I knew all along that a cladding would be added, but I blindly trusted the planners or simply didn’t pay much attention to it. Now I’m annoyed with myself. I have to live with it for the coming years.
