Hello. My girlfriend and I are planning to build a house. In the bathrooms upstairs and downstairs, the walls should be tiled all around up to a height of 1.50 meters (5 feet). In the upstairs bathroom, the wall behind the bathtub is only 90 cm (35 inches) high. (The layout of the bathtub and toilet is provisional.) Both showers will have rectangular drains with the appropriate slope for drainage. The shower partitions upstairs are 1.90 meters (6 feet 3 inches) high. The partition downstairs is made of glass.

Dachgeschoss-Grundriss eines Hauses mit Flur, Treppe, zwei Schlafzimmern und Bad.

Erdgeschoss-Grundriss: Wohnzimmer, Küche, Büro, Diele, WC, Treppe, Garage.

Angebotsdokument für Neubau eines EFH (Nr. 3589) mit Baupositionen und Preisen.

What do you think about the quote? Honestly, it seems very expensive to me, doesn’t it? The quote does not include tiles!

Yes, we really need to consider that. We only want to tile the floors in the showers. In the rest of the bathrooms, glued vinyl flooring will be used. The price for the 3 sqm (32 sq ft) also includes the finishing work at the channel drain, including cutting and fitting.

90 euros/m2 net for wall tiling work, excluding materials? Phew... if these were 120 x 120 cm (47 x 47 inches) tiles, maybe. But like this... it sounds more like a defensive offer. Definitely get two more quotes!

Are you doing separate contracts?

PS: I think the prices for the floor-to-ceiling showers and drains are reasonable.

The project might also be too small.

All items are very expensive.
Over €900 net for the sloped screed of a walk-in shower. Crazy.
Almost €90 net to install 60x60cm (24x24 inches) tiles on the wall. I would have to check, but I think we paid at most half that – with larger format tiles.

Actually, it’s only half as expensive: there are two showers. And the shower channels are quite tricky to install when you have to cut the tiles like that.

Yep, THAT is the madness that makes the whole package so expensive. Keep in mind, for 60x30cm (24x12 inches) tiles!

Thank you. I also felt that the offer was not appropriate. The gentleman probably does not like me. He is a distant acquaintance. We are now looking for something else.
