Freistoß883 Jul 2019 22:10Hello everyone,
I need help from knowledgeable people. I am looking for information about the optimal reveal depth in masonry for windows. Currently, a reveal depth of 6cm (2.4 inches) is planned. However, I think this is too large. Can someone tell me what the optimal size is? In my opinion, it should not exceed 4cm (1.6 inches).
Could you please explain the advantages and disadvantages of a small reveal of 3cm (1.2 inches) versus a large reveal of 6cm (2.4 inches)?
I would appreciate a quick response.

I need information about the optimal recess in masonry for windows. Currently, a recess of 6cm (2.4 inches) is planned. What exactly are you referring to – the dimension by which the facing brickwork protrudes beyond the inner masonry leaf? For monolithic walls, recessed window jambs have been out of fashion since the Adenauer era – until then, 6 cm (2.4 inches) (a quarter brick / half header) was the most common dimension. Today, flush jambs are the standard. How did you come up with this question? In your thread history, I only found inquiries about the building site; usually, there is a significant time gap between site preparation and window installation.

Freistoß884 Jul 2019 08:19Regarding today's common construction methods, I would specify 3 cm (1.2 inches) as the target dimension for this connection. The 6 cm (2.4 inches) measurement was justified at other times (with different customs, meaning construction techniques).
Did you notice my subtle hint that the forum community enjoys following entire building projects more than dissecting individual technical details?

Thanks first of all for your feedback and help. Now, after rereading your first response, I can actually understand it. I will try to avoid detailed questions. If one does come up, I would still appreciate your help.
Best regards and have a great weekend everyone.

However, those who share their building project and its progress with the community will benefit more from valuable advice than those who only show small parts of their project and ask questions bit by bit.
