It would be great if some of you could share pictures of your terraces. With so many options available, it can be difficult to make a decision.
What materials and colors did you choose, and why? What has your experience been like after 5 years or more? How large is your terrace? What did you pay for it? Have you incorporated any features such as umbrella stands, raised garden beds, or similar elements? Did you do the work yourselves? Do you know any reliable suppliers for materials that you would recommend? What would you do differently next time?
There are surely many other homeowners who would appreciate photos and tips. Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but I feel like I have already posted photos in the garden thread.
At the moment, it’s difficult to take any photogenic pictures in this heat. Everything is drying out, spiders are spinning their webs, sweat droplets everywhere. And then the weeds and the ants.
We regret our south-facing terrace, would have preferred something else, more shaded. And our furniture is also a mixed collection.

Thanks for the great thread.
There are some real gems here.
Maybe there will be even more to see...
We will also look into it this summer, as we plan to renovate the terrace next spring.
Our terrace faces north #rofl and we are actually quite happy with that.
We couldn’t choose it anyway, since it’s my parents’ house, which I am now taking over.
The terrace is, I have to estimate, about 35-40sqm (376-430 sq ft) in size and is surrounded on all sides except the north side by the house/heating room.
By now, I’ve also moved away from WPC.
The terrace will get a glass roof. I don’t know much more yet.
Looking forward to suggestions and maybe a few more pictures here!
Thanks.

nordanney1 Jul 2019 11:02A section of the terrace features Noir Toya slate stone used for the raised beds and edging, granite 60 x 60cm (24 x 24 inches) Athina in anthracite, a few dark granite stones measuring 10 x 10cm (4 x 4 inches), slate scraps from the hardware store, and gravel surrounding the house extending to the driveway, which is made from the same material.
Since the terrace covers 30 sqm (323 sq ft) (it consists of two staggered sections), it was somewhat more expensive, and the furniture is a mix-and-match.

Does anyone have experience with discounts on shading solutions outside the main season?
So far, we have been using two umbrellas (Glatz) and are just annoyed by them. The sun moves, but the umbrella doesn’t adjust automatically. You have to keep repositioning it.
Are (brand) awnings or sun sails usually cheaper towards the end of the year? The dealers we have visited so far say no, but I find that hard to believe.

Our umbrella always tips over.
