Hello everyone,

After the great help with the floor plan design (LINK) (thank you!), the floor plan is now fixed, and we are moving on to fine-tuning the window planning on the ground floor .
This is a so-called “linked house,” meaning no windows can be placed on the right side (basically like a semi-detached house). Therefore, it’s even more important to make optimal use of the available options.

Attached is the current plan. We are already quite satisfied with the windows on the north side (kitchen); they are about 80cm (31.5 inches) high horizontal windows, although suggestions for improvement are, of course, very welcome!

There is still room for improvement on the south side, but we just can’t find a good solution. The couch corner is important to us, as is the TV opposite it. However, this makes it difficult to position the windows optimally because having a TV right in front of a window is not ideal either. In the current proposal, we are concerned that the couch corner might end up too dark?!

We would be very grateful for any suggestions or ideas regarding the window layout.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Ground floor plan: Garage on the left, kitchen, living/dining area; south view of the house

Why for occasional TV viewers?

Because you have to twist your neck quite a bit to watch the TV from the sofa, it’s not comfortable...

I would choose the continuous lower sections at the top (like in suggestion post #3, of course without the smokey eyes in between), and at the bottom, I find the suggestion from post #1 the most appealing – it seems to have sufficiently wide windows facing south.

I would install a continuous sliding door:

But a quick question... both windows in the kitchen have a wall opening height of 80cm (31.5 inches)... what would the sill height be? Just a feeling, but for me, that always looks like a basement.

There are many TV solutions that allow for simple and bright window arrangements:
Evening viewers can opt for a TV setup with a motorized screen and projector. This approach offers freedom in window planning. Projectors are available, among other types, as ultra-wide-angle models—meaning they can be placed almost directly in front of the screen. Projection surfaces can be rolled down from either the top or the bottom.
It is also possible to recess a TV into furniture, which keeps the window above well usable when the TV is not in use.
Another option is a good swivel arm that moves the TV into a comfortable viewing position and folds it away when not being used.

... although it seems to me you were generally thinking of traditional TVs. In my view, that mostly applied to a time when the Eurovision fanfare, like a festive bell, gathered the family together to watch Kuli or Frankenfeld, whereas today the screen is more often used as a multimedia Ambilight, providing continuous background entertainment.
