Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Thank you all

I enjoy these kinds of projects, so I spent a lot of time on it. I designed the furniture myself, my husband did the structural planning, and the carpenter had to build it (poor guy, oops). And when it comes to shopping for decorations, someone always has to hold me back. But we feel very comfortable, and that’s the main thing!

Right now, we are building the terrace. We still need to install some wood cladding on the house, which we will also do ourselves. Working with wood is just the most fun (except for decorating )

A different question:

Do you have fully motorized external venetian blinds, even in the bedrooms?

I’m still considering it... originally planned to have external venetian blinds in the living area and roller shutters elsewhere.

Wickie, do you have a thread here about your house? It looks great – probably just like how we would have liked to build. I’d be interested, including plans.

What did you use to make the raised bed? Is that raw steel?

Tumaa, that was also our initial plan, but for aesthetic reasons, we ultimately chose Venetian blinds (also called blinds or louvered shutters) everywhere. I was always worried that the bedroom wouldn’t get dark enough (there is a streetlight directly in front of our property and the bedroom), but for the rooms that really need to be dark, we have a special louver profile to ensure proper blackout (I think it’s called Z-profile).

I’m curious to see if it really works as promised – I definitely need it to be dark in the bedroom.

Yesterday we visited a window supplier… they showed us the different types of external venetian blinds, and the Z-slats are supposed to provide even better darkening, as you mentioned… let’s see, maybe I’ll get a quote for the whole house.

Unfortunately, no. The Z-profile does not provide complete blackout; if you really want it dark, you won’t get around using a curtain. That’s what we did as well.

A different question:

Do you have full Venetian blinds (external louvered blinds) everywhere, including in the bedrooms?

The bedroom has access to the loggia above, so we have roller shutters on the door leading outside and Venetian blinds on the window! We would choose this setup again without hesitation. Warema S-lamella. Completely vibration-free and quiet—I had expected it to be worse, especially in windy conditions. And we live up on a hill with strong winds!
The guest room (ground floor) also has roller shutters because there is a small parking area directly in front of the room. Also (of course, just my impression, but still…) because it feels a bit “safer” than Venetian blinds. Otherwise, all the windows have Venetian blinds – on the north side we skipped two units because at that time we couldn’t properly estimate the total costs. So far, that’s the only mistake we already regret. Having Venetian blinds everywhere would have been better! Even if only for the look, since privacy or sun protection is unnecessary on those windows. Oh well. Too late now.

Thank you! Life often works that way… we could have also imagined a house like yours, but due to very strict building regulations on this plot, we weren’t allowed (we “had to” build a flat roof). We also really like your house!
There are no plans here; we prefer not to share such things publicly. But I can upload some photos when I get the chance.

The raised bed is made of Corten steel! Negative: expensive; positive: no slugs on the lettuce.
Next to the Corten bed there is a steel bench—once the terrace is completely finished and ready to show, I’ll post a photo of that too!
