Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

In our area, it’s a bit of a mix... there are definitely some brick-faced houses (but definitely the minority), and it’s by no means a requirement. Rendered houses are common.

In our commuter town near Düsseldorf, white-rendered houses with little or no roof overhang have become popular in recent years. Almost all of them show uneven soiling after a few years, especially on the north-facing sides. I cannot say whether this is due to a specific local climate or the use of low-quality materials. In any case, it does not look “shabby chic” but rather shabby and unpleasant.

There is probably a good reason why our region has traditionally been a brick and clinker brick area.

Even if the development plan / building permit had allowed it, we definitely would not have chosen brick cladding. Here, people tend to consider wood for (partial) facade design instead.
I love the look of wood
.....but the maintenance, no thanks

My house has to have brick cladding. Otherwise, it’s not a house. Silly, I know, there are many beautiful houses without brick cladding. But just not mine.

Another reason we didn’t build in Bavaria – even if it’s allowed there, good luck finding someone who can do it properly and well.

We're making great progress here.
The basement has been poured, the first walls are built, and the basement ceiling is already in place and waiting (arrived a week early ).
Really exciting... I can hardly contain my joy standing inside the house.

I felt the same every time. It’s just so satisfying to see how much progress is made day by day.
