ᐅ Security cameras, because our dog is a heavy sleeper...

Hello everyone!

We got an American Staffordshire Terrier specifically to protect our future home... but it turns out he would rather cuddle any intruder than raise an alarm when someone enters the property uninvited...

So, Plan B is needed!

(I hope the irony was clear—we knew right away that our buddy is a really sweet dog! ... :-) )

We have been considering some security cameras. Just for peace of mind. There have been several recent break-ins and car vandalism incidents among friends and family...

Does anyone have specific recommendations for security camera systems?

It should be as simple as possible and not cost a fortune. We were thinking about 4 outdoor cameras with night vision.

A friend got the predecessors (from 7 years ago) of a Goliath HDCVI set and is very happy with it. The whole set, including 4 outdoor cameras, plenty of cables, and a recorder, came to just under €300. Is that something worth considering?

It would then be a standalone system...

Is there anything like that available for a standard home network? Something that runs over Ethernet cables?

I’m curious about your recommendations.

That’s not much! Or did you make a typo?

Not much? To me, that sounds extremely high. In almost 30 years here, I’ve only heard of one break-in among all my friends, acquaintances, and neighbors in the entire village… surely there have been others I don’t know about, but one every six months in just 50 houses seems so frequent that I wouldn’t want to live there at all.

The sign with the dog and the fact that he occasionally lies in front of the house should be enough. Burglars don’t know that he’s actually a big softie. They are usually less afraid of cameras.

You should try working where I do… then you’d know what really counts as a lot or a little 😎

Hotspot?

In 2017, there were 116,450 attempted home burglaries. Less than half of these were unsuccessful due to effective security measures.

Considering the total number of owner-occupied houses and apartments, 2 burglaries per year per 50 homes is a very high rate. Ypg seems to work in an area with even higher incidence and therefore has a skewed perception.

However, this is not the national average. Golfi90 and the others are correct in considering it a high number.

A colleague of mine lives in a new housing development where they have a WhatsApp group. Every time a stranger enters the area, it is posted in the group along with the license plate, etc. :-) ...........
