Hello everyone,

We have just received a quote from our plumber for the maintenance of the heating system.
The following services are included in the offer:

Inspection of the household water filter for proper function, including replacement of the filter cartridge
Maintenance of the small sewage lifting station, including cleaning if necessary
Maintenance of the air-to-water heat pump, consisting of:
Cleaning of the heat exchanger in the outdoor unit
Leak check on both the refrigerant and water sides
Function check of pumps, mixing valves, compressor, etc.
Operational testing of the control system
Inspection of the sacrificial anode in the domestic hot water tank
Inspection of the in-wall bathroom exhaust fan, including filter replacement

Net price: 262 €

What do you think of this?
Is it reasonable or not?
Are the costs appropriate or too high?

Please clean the filters in the bathroom exhaust fan and the water system yourself; once a year is not enough. Otherwise, the price is high: 50 euros net times 5 hours equals 250, and the 5 hours are not included. Unless some kind of insurance is included, I will wait. If something does happen, I will come and fix it at no charge.

I see it the same way as nordlys.
Assuming a 50:50 split between labor and materials, what does he plan to do for two hours and charge €130?
What kind of water filter do you have? Normally, these are backwashable—you just go once every quarter, turn it 360 degrees with a bucket underneath, and that’s it. Or what do you have there?
You can also perform the leak test yourself. Even a layperson can spot that. And the unit will have pressure sensors that will alert you if something leaks. Besides, you have a 5-year warranty anyway, so if anything leaks, it should be covered.
He might as well use the polish for the outdoor unit on his car instead 🙂

I've never changed the filter in the bathroom... is that something you’re supposed to do??

By a maintenance contract, do you mean a long-term agreement where the heating technician comes every year? Where you basically commit to a company for a longer period, get a fixed price over several years, and sometimes also receive a discount on spare parts?

We have a gas heating system. It is serviced by the company that installed it originally, and they follow the manufacturer’s guidelines from Vaillant. I have them come annually, but without a maintenance contract. This means I sometimes have to wait longer for an appointment, but I could also change providers. Last year, it cost 220€ (about $240), with the maintenance itself costing 142.90€ (about $156) and the repair (magnesium anode, seal, something drained/vented/refilled, technician hours) at 79.19€ (about $87). It took about 2 hours, and since a trainee was present and received explanations, the billed hours were less. Of course, your heating system is different, but I’m sharing this for reference. For you, is the 260€ (about $283) just the price for the maintenance itself?
