Hello everyone,

I’m brand new here and desperately looking for helpful tips for our planned building project. We’re still at the very beginning of the planning stage and already feeling like we might fail ;-)

Specifically, we’re looking for ideas, floor plans, pictures, or examples of detached houses with a flat or shed roof AND a roof terrace.

We want to use the roof space efficiently, and a roof terrace over part of the roof seems like a good idea, especially since it would allow us to build on a somewhat smaller plot.

However, I can’t find any suitable inspiration anywhere. We’re imagining a kind of bungalow with a bedroom, bathroom, a small gallery, and a large roof terrace on top. It gets a bit tricky because my partner doesn’t want a "cube" shape, so we’re thinking of some kind of “implied roof” where the ground floor transitions to the roof terrace—maybe three or four rows of roof shingles or something like that...

We’d appreciate any suggestions of any kind. Perhaps someone here has built or planned a similar house and could share some pictures or the name of the builder.

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: We don’t want to approach a construction company or architect without having at least a somewhat concrete idea...

Hello,

Our friends, who are helping us with the planning and whose floor plan we initially wanted to somewhat copy (but it’s quite different now), have a detached house with a flat roof and a roof terrace. Since the client doesn’t really like flat roofs, the house has an eave overhang. However, it’s a bit different from what you described because the terrace is on top. There is a basement plus two full floors, and then a flat roof on top, partly greened and partly a roof terrace. I have an elevation drawing and the floor plans on my computer, but I’m not allowed to simply upload them online. If you’re specifically interested, even though it’s different from your description, I’m sure we can find a way. If needed, I can send you their email address via private message, provided they agree, which I’m quite confident about...

Best regards,

You are putting the cart before the horse; what if your "dream house" does not fit the site requirements later on? 😉

Kind regards
