Hello everyone,

Has anyone tried to get funding from BAFA for an air-source heat pump? The seasonal performance factor is set so extremely high that it seems practically unattainable.

Since you can't achieve 4.5 with an air source heat pump, the probability is 0%. Information or not.

Good luck

You are obviously misinformed...

Quick question – how does the proof of the seasonal performance factor actually work? I applied for an air-to-water heat pump and received the approval; but we live in the Alps, so definitely the same temperature range

You don’t need to provide proof that it really reached 4.5. At least that was the case last year. It wouldn’t make sense anyway, since the first year isn’t very conclusive because things like the heating-up program run at flow temperatures that are significantly higher than those later on.

A calculation according to VDI always needs to be provided. The values actually achieved in practice largely depend on user behavior and are therefore irrelevant for the subsidy.

And how did you manipulate it? I have the most expensive inverter Novelan heat pump and achieve about 4.2 in calculation. Where is the mistake?

Nothing manipulated. Just proper planning/design of the heating system and a suitable heat pump.

Give me your
NAT, VLT, heating limit temperature, and heat pump model, then I can tell you what you could have done differently, if anything at all...

The funding requires achieving a seasonal performance factor (SPF) of at least 4.5. Until March, this could still be calculated using the old version of the VDI guideline. From March onwards, however, it must be calculated according to the new VDI guideline. The new calculation method is closer to real-world conditions. Therefore, the SPF values are generally lower.

and once again, our heating installer missed this...

P.P.S Under no circumstances install a heating buffer tank with a heat pump.

This is not entirely correct. Of course, there are applications where a stratified storage tank can be useful.
