Hello!
We are considering whether to choose Venetian blinds or roller shutters.
Originally, I preferred roller shutters because they seem to offer better burglary protection. However, an architect advised us against this, saying that roller shutters can also be easily broken into. He believes that with almost the same level of burglary protection, Venetian blinds are much more comfortable and provide greater flexibility.
So far, we have only had roller shutters or interior blinds, so we lack direct comparisons.

Do you also think that roller shutters are not significantly "safer" than Venetian blinds?
Can you think of other pros and cons?

The security level in the standard version is the same for both systems, which is practically none. Roller shutters are available in RC2 and higher ratings, but these are quite expensive due to significantly stronger components and more complex installation. Additionally, most RC2 roller shutters no longer have light slits.

It’s not that roller shutters are like Fort Knox, but I think they do offer a bit more of a barrier compared to Venetian blinds. Off the top of my head:

Advantages of roller shutters:

Price
Provide complete darkness
Can stay closed during storms

Advantages of Venetian blinds:

Appearance (Of course, a matter of personal taste)
Shading without completely darkening the room

You could also mix them if you don’t mind the different looks

We have both types, venetian blinds (with track guidance) and roller shutters. In the living areas, the venetian blinds work really well; you can easily control the amount and direction of light while still having a good view outside. Roller shutters only offer either fully open or fully closed options. The downside of venetian blinds is that they don’t darken the room as much as roller shutters do (there are blackout venetian blinds, but they still don’t darken as much as roller shutters), and they are more prone to wind damage, so it’s best to raise them during storms.

Venetian blinds with adjustable slats allow shading without making the room completely dark. However, they are sensitive to strong winds and significantly more expensive.

This could become an issue in the bathroom if there is a floor-to-ceiling window facing the street.

We also used a combination. Venetian blinds are planned for the entire living area.
