Hello

I’ll start from the bottom:
My terrace is on top of the double garage, so it’s concrete. There is a 30cm (12 inches) height difference up to the door threshold that I need to build up.
First, a roofer who specializes in flat roofs will install a vapor barrier. Then, custom-made expanded polystyrene with built-in slope will be placed. On top of that, the waterproof layer will be applied. Now I have to decide: Should I lay the floor tiles directly on the polystyrene about 3cm (1 inch) below the door threshold, or should I lay them approximately 10cm (4 inches) below that level using pedestals?
Does anyone have experience with this and can share some tips? Pros and cons would be appreciated.
I’m really unsure!

I don’t think you should put either directly on polystyrene. The substrate is not suitable for that. Especially the pedestals would press heavily into the polystyrene.

Pedestal supports are good. The idea with polystyrene is not recommended.
The pedestal supports must be placed on a solid base or, for example, a protective underlayment.
Tiles glued to polystyrene will also not hold.

Hello

The "StyroporW" will be EPS slope panels. These will be protected on the top with a waterproofing membrane Mogaplan PXE G 200 S5. If anything, the tiles will be installed on top of that.
Now I am trying to find the right method for the tiles.
Of course, I will consult a tiler. But perhaps someone here already has experience with this.
