Hello everyone

After purchasing a plot of land in Neuhofen, Rhineland-Palatinate, we would like to build an extension onto an existing semi-detached house.

We are now looking for a general contractor.
I would be very grateful for any experiences and advice you can share.

I didn’t expect it to be this stressful

Ha! Just wait... this is nothing yet. I’ve already completely lost my nerves two or three times (land purchase in May 2018), and we haven’t even broken ground until March. Next comes the financing, the building permit / planning permission, then the insurance, then the kitchen, and only after that the actual construction. Plus the usual everyday madness you always have. Finding a general contractor is still the smallest problem…

I’m already halfway to burnout.
Luckily, financing is already secured.
It’s definitely going to be stressful.
Grit your teeth and push through!

The future neighbor is currently hibernating in the warm south.

Maybe one of the neighbors who isn’t on vacation right now knows who built his side. My comment about the builder of his half was: if he doesn’t have the plague, isn’t smelly or difficult, then go with him. I don’t see any reason against choosing Weton or one of the others mentioned. However, one of my fundamental beliefs is that with a semi-detached house, both halves together form a whole that no one can bond better than the person who planned or built the first half. Not necessarily the only option, but in my opinion usually the best first choice. Therefore, I recommend you find out who the architect and/or contractor was for the other half.

I can also recommend Weton; we were satisfied.

That sounds really reasonable!!!!
I will kindly ask the neighbors about it on Tuesday.
Maybe the local authority can provide some information as well.
There should be a building permit / planning permission application somewhere.
Thanks ✌

I will call weton first thing tomorrow. I just hope the price-performance ratio is reasonable. Best regards
