Hello,
I am currently building a new house and wanted to ask whether I should go with the standard star wiring or the Unicable system. There are a total of 8 outlets, but only up to 4 will be used at the same time. Only one satellite is to be received.

I would recommend a Unicable solution with star wiring.
So:
- Satellite antenna with Quattro LNB (not Quad LNB!)
- From the LNB, 4 cables go to a Unicable multiswitch.
- From the multiswitch, run star-shaped cables to the rooms.
This way, multiple programs can be watched and recorded simultaneously in each room. However, all devices must support the Unicable protocol. If you still have older devices, you can also choose a multiswitch with additional legacy outputs to supply the older (conventional) receivers.

Yes, but using a Sat over IP server instead of a multiswitch!

Grobmutant30 Jan 2019 15:07Is Sat over IP still too dependent on specific hardware? I guess most (new) TVs still don’t support it. So you would need a separate Sat over IP receiver for each TV or replace all TVs with models that support it.

Yes, but via Sat over IP server instead of multiswitch! Do you think that’s worth it? I assume that within 5 to 10 years at the latest, the satellite dish will be removed from the roof. I consider this only as a temporary solution until streaming becomes fully established.

I have already taken on way too much anyway. I know that feeling. That’s why we are currently watching TV over the internet (Zattoo).
But I still want to be able to channel surf directly on the TV again, without having to start an app every time.

And two double LAN outlets in EVERY room (including bathroom, hallway, kitchen). That is exactly my plan and implementation. However, I’m still a bit skeptical about Sat-over-IP for this reason: Grobmutant schrieb:
With Sat-over-IP, aren’t you (still) quite dependent on specific hardware? I assume most (new) TVs don’t support it yet. Then you would definitely need a separate Sat-over-IP receiver for each TV or new TVs everywhere that support it. The TV currently in use has to last until new receivers become standard (if there even ever will be a standard). Until then, I wanted to have a satellite dish on the roof. Netflix alone is just not enough to satisfy me. I wouldn’t need private TV channels. I admit I like using the public broadcasting offerings.
