Hello everyone!

While trying to estimate our construction costs, I discovered thanks to the lists here in the forum that we were about to forget the driveway / entrance area!
As a reference, I found that one should expect around 10,000–15,000 Euros. Is this realistic for an area of about 66 sqm (710 sq ft)?
I know it’s difficult to give a specific price. If we say: simple concrete slabs / stones, area about 66 sqm (710 sq ft), in Upper Bavaria – could we say we are likely looking at a range between 10,000 and 15,000 Euros?

The same area is currently covered with old concrete. Do you have an idea how much removing it might cost?
(Assuming my husband doesn’t want to try out his new pneumatic hammer 🙂 )

Once we get that far, I will post the specific quotes we receive here.

Have the concrete slabs removed along with the demolition.

Without knowing your property, is the garage or house entrance at street level, or do you need to add fill?

Our garage is more than 1 meter (3 ft) above street level, and that was expensive.
If you need to add fill, the budget might be a bit tight.

Regarding self-performed demolition, in our area, construction waste is only accepted in containers for private individuals. If you know someone, you might be able to dispose of about 0.5 cubic meters (0.65 cubic yards). Make sure to clarify this in advance. Otherwise, you could end up spending more than if you hired a company. Disposal in small quantities was also relatively costly.

Thank you for your reply, Haydee! So, do you mean it would be more cost-effective if we hire a company to handle the entire project?

As a rough estimate:
Paving with basic concrete pavers including the subbase cost us €100 per square meter (approximately $110 per square yard). I did some online research back then, and it certainly wasn’t the cheapest price I found... ;-)

For us, it was more cost-effective to clear out ourselves (waste in containers and arrange pickup).

One company for gutting, demolition, and disposal.

A second company for the foundation slab, groundworks including utility connections, gutters, etc., and retaining walls for the house and garage.

Yes, the second company had tasks that might have still belonged to demolition; this only became clear during construction.

Company 1 sometimes does foundation slabs or builds garages but that is not their main focus.
Company 2 would also carry out demolition work, but only if absolutely necessary.

Get quotes from several companies. We received offers ranging from about 40,000 all-in to well over 100,000 without gutting.
One company wanted to bring in a rock crusher, etc.

@xray107 were those the material costs only?

@haydee were you two working together on the demolition? How exhausting was it, and how long did it take? I have great respect for such work, but since we have many other expenses to expect, it's something to consider 🙂
