Hello!

I would like to ask if any of you have ever created a plaster wall with a concrete-look finish yourselves. There are instructions showing how to apply thick sheets of plastic, cut to size, onto fresh plaster with the edges touching. After a short time, the sheets are removed again to achieve the visual effect of the wall being made up of individual concrete segments.

I’m wondering if this is something one can manage on their own? As is often the case, I have more time than money...

... and hopefully more luck than knowledge, because with exposed brickwork / exposed concrete, you can see "everything" – especially "fakes" require some skill.

I think trying to fit a plaster wall to a film is pointless. Which paint would you use if the appearance matches?

How about applying a skim coat that looks like concrete? There are plenty of suppliers where you can achieve better quality yourself than with a film...

May I post a link here to a website that explains this kind of thing?

In the example, the film is only used as a tool to create the effect that occurs when building formwork for concrete.

Of course, there are certainly many other possibilities... that’s exactly why I’m asking here. Concrete look is really trendy right now... someone must have done this before...

How is that supposed to work? The concrete surface needs tactile imperfections: air bubbles and the joints from the formwork. How would you achieve that by simply "skimming"?

For that reason, I really like the idea of a 3D foil --> with the negative of that texture <-- pressed into a fresh layer of plaster. Then paint it with several shades of gray, first a dark base coat, then lightly splattered with a lighter color. I think that could turn out well, but as usual... ideas from the couch always sound better than reality, where peeling off the foil might pull the still-wet plaster off with it, and so on.^^

Our kitchen, along with the matching sideboard also supplied by the kitchen manufacturer, will feature generous concrete-look elements. We didn’t dare to do entire walls like that, partly because of the room size, so it wouldn’t feel overwhelming...

At Hornbach, I saw a type of paste that is supposed to create a concrete look (including color) on the wall. Maybe this could be something...
