ᐅ Heating Solution for a Large Single-Family Home with a Pool

Hello everyone,
we are currently planning to build a relatively large single-family home (living area, including the rooms in the basement used as living space, around 450 sqm (4844 sq ft)).

In addition, we are building an outdoor pool, which should also be heated from April to October. Ideally, it should not have a separate heating system but be integrated into the overall heating concept.

I generally prefer to invest a bit more upfront in order to have lower ongoing costs.

The construction companies mostly recommend an air-to-water heat pump because it requires the least effort for them (no chimney needed, no solar system required).

However, I am somewhat skeptical about heating such a large house and the pool only with a heat pump.

Therefore, the question is:
What would be a reasonable solution for the heating? Heat pump? In combination with solar thermal or photovoltaic? Gas condensing boiler with solar thermal or photovoltaic? Or perhaps even a small combined heat and power plant?

I would really appreciate any input on this.

I find the comment quite odd and rather envious.

Hello rick

Do you read your own posts?
Envious? Definitely not. Due to my profession, I work with people of a very different caliber.
However, the thread starter should seek advice on the topic of heating/brine from an INDEPENDENT expert. I have 300 m² (3,230 sq ft) of heated living space with two boreholes, each 75 meters (246 feet) deep. I am very satisfied with both the heating output and the cooling performance. And all of this with electricity costs well under 1,000 euros per year.

Yes, I do read my posts.
Do you have a pool that you want to heat for half a year? It will soon generate more heating demand than the house.
It also gets colder in Bavaria, so a more powerful heating system is necessary.
I have also recommended a consultant to him.
If it’s not jealousy, then why such an unnecessary and unconstructive comment about the yacht?

As I said, I regularly deal with affluent clients in my profession.
They also build houses. Budgets of 2-3 million are common.
But none of them participate in forums or ask for support. They have consultants.

However, this does not answer the question related to your comment 😉
It's nice that you know your business partners so well that they tell you whether they are active in forums, just quietly read, or are not interested at all.
Certainly, kmk123 is not approaching the matter in a typical way, but that doesn't matter for now. He came to this forum to get support. And he should receive it.

Hello rick

What answer were you expecting to hear? You probably wouldn’t like it.
If you casually throw out figures like "2-3 million," plus or minus a million—who cares—then you should expect comments like these. Not everyone has that kind of money. And the forum members here certainly aren’t average earners.
If you don’t care whether the house costs one or two million more, good for you. Financially, you don’t have to watch every penny. It just sounds a bit arrogant to me.

Hello Steven,
I would have preferred to hear exactly that from you rather than just a random comment.
I do care about how expensive my house will be.
The 2-3 million for KMK123’s house was just my estimate, and I still stand by it. Building in Bavaria is just as expensive as in Baden-Württemberg.
I never said that this shouldn’t matter. Especially since this isn’t about my build...
With that size plus a pool, you’ll definitely end up in that kind of price range.
You yourself deal with affluent clients. The features can make a huge difference (especially with that size).
How do you know what my financial situation is?
I know that neither this build nor mine are "normal." Just like your 300m2 (3,230 sq ft) house...
But we should focus back on the questions from KMK123.
Now I understand what bothered you.
