Hello dear forum,
Specifically, we are building a house and have a covered balcony on the first floor (for better understanding, please see the attached elevation and floor plan).
We would like to access the attic via this balcony. However, we now need an attic ladder suitable for outdoor use. We have already inquired with Wippro, but their ladders are not suitable for this purpose.
We appreciate any advice,
Best regards, Jennifer

Jennifer_Re19 Nov 2018 15:11The attic and balcony are not heated. What I meant earlier by "dew-related moisture" is the moisture that settles on items outdoors overnight. For example, I left a flashlight outside over the weekend. The next morning, it was completely wet from the moisture that typically occurs at night during this time of year.
However, I’m not sure exactly what Wippro sees as the problem for use in outdoor environments.

Usually, the attic ladder is clad after installation, whether inside or outside.
For the exterior, for example, with profiled wood that is painted (apply a protective film on the hatch cover and then the profiled wood, or use the same material as the balcony ceiling, which is hardly ever drywall) and that's it.

We want to install a folding staircase over the balcony. I would see this mostly as "blocking" the balcony door, meaning anything that needs to be carried up must first be brought over to the balcony railing all at once, so you don’t have to go through the balcony door afterward, and then you fold out the telescopic ladder.

However, my partner doesn’t want that, because when cold meets warm, mold regularly starts to form. What are the regulations like in Austria? Since this is mainly a forum populated by German builders, we are usually guided by the Energy Saving Ordinance 2016 (“Energieeinsparverordnung”). This means that, in most cases, the thermal envelope is drawn above the floor ceiling leading to the attic if the roof space is not used as living space.
The house doesn’t seem to be designed on a tight budget. If you are willing to make some compromises concerning headroom, I would recommend continuing the main stairwell. Our regular poster @Nordlys has it like this: a “full-size” staircase that is safe and comfortable to walk on, leading to a storage attic, enclosed at the top with a door.
Visually, roughly estimated, this should be achievable in your case with at least 160cm (63 inches) of headroom.

But unfortunately, I don’t know exactly what Wippro sees as the problem for outdoor use. A best-before date is not an expiration date ;-)
I believe this mostly refers to the exclusion of warranty in this case.

Silent01019 Nov 2018 15:46You have probably already discussed this topic yourselves: Why not have a hatch in the upper floor hallway? You tend to use the attic more often, and especially in winter, it is more convenient not to have to go outside just to retrieve something from the attic. Visually, the delicate slits in the ceiling are hardly noticeable.
