Hello everyone, I already briefly mentioned in my introduction post that my wife and I have big building plans, which we hope to finally realize within the next few years. I don’t know anyone in my close circle of friends who is building a house, so I’m hoping to get some help here, as I naturally have a thousand questions about various topics! Currently, we are focusing a lot on how we want to heat our home and have quickly agreed that we want a heat pump for both heating and domestic hot water. I find the topic very complex, but if I understand correctly, a heat pump mainly uses renewable environmental energy, but also consumes a small amount of electricity. That’s why we would like to combine it with a photovoltaic system. Does anyone here have experience with this and can share their insights? Do you think this is a good idea? I would be grateful for any input!

I think it does make sense. A full supply isn’t possible in winter, but every contribution counts. Even at 10%, the question is always 10% of what? And in the warm half of the year, you get hot water just as "free" as with solar thermal systems. The only difference is that with photovoltaic panels, the excess can be used or sold. Hundreds of liters of hot water in summer are usually not that useful. Electricity is always needed.

For brine heat pumps, make sure you do not build within a protected mineral spring area. Drillings are not always approved there.

Photovoltaics for heat pumps never cover everything, but they definitely make it a lot of fun. In our case, the heat pump runs on the regular household electricity; the consumption figures therefore include cooling in summer, heating, hot water, cooking, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, lighting, and so on. November data is up to and including this morning.

The same applies to regular water protection zones.

Forgot to mention: It is a modulating split air-to-water heat pump with 6 kW thermal output...

Yes, the necessary conditions obviously have to be met. Berny, how is your photovoltaic system designed? The numbers look really good.
