I am currently a bit confused about the choice of heating system. Our building manager had originally planned to install the sdp solar roof tiles from Nelskamp. However, he has now changed his mind and wants to suggest an air-to-water heat pump instead—Mitsubishi Zubadan. Does anyone have experience with this?

Which type of heating system would you recommend to keep costs as low as possible while still being suitable for a KFW-55 house?

Hello Marina,

Was he already aware that you want to build a KfW 55 efficiency house? And what exactly do you mean by "construction manager"?

We have not installed it ourselves yet, but I have been following this system for quite some time and am waiting for genuine user feedback from those who have installed this air-to-water heat pump. The provider is often mentioned alongside Daikin or Donner – Daikin has good and economical systems.

This question cannot be answered properly because you have not provided any information about the conditions; even then, it would almost be impossible to give a precise answer, so recommendations can only point in a general direction.

For a well-insulated prefabricated house, it "can" be possible to manage with an air-to-water heat pump and controlled ventilation, whereas with a solid (masonry) house, the exterior walls and floor slab usually need additional insulation improvements alongside the technology. In fact, your structural engineer – who also prepares the thermal insulation certificate – should be able to advise you on the best course of action...?

Here you can find a further discussion on heating systems:

This won’t change much unless there is an independent consultation/planning!

A "project manager" is not an independent MEP planner and energy consultant – at best, a salesperson! 😡 This “change of mind” is practically a quantum jump! I wouldn’t trust this salesperson at all!

There is no reliable, one-size-fits-all answer for this. The individual data of the building project must be provided.

It looks very expensive with the KfW 55 standard! Mainly due to your costly heat pump technology, etc. I would recommend improving insulation instead and avoiding the expensive technical equipment! A passive house with ventilation heating uses less energy, even though it might be slightly more expensive because you use electricity to heat up the remaining heat. But in return, you save €25,000 on the heating system, which I would rather invest in even more insulation and better windows!
