ᐅ Tiles: Should baseboards be custom cut or ordered pre-made?

Hello,

our tile supplier asked us whether we prefer ready-made baseboards or if we would rather order a few extra tiles and have the tiler cut the baseboards themselves.

We were a bit unsure and didn’t really know what to decide, especially since there was no sample piece available.
The tiles are 20x120 cm (8x48 inches) with a wood look.

Advantage of ready-made baseboards: rounded edges with wood appearance.
Disadvantage: somewhat more expensive.

With cut baseboards, the tile edge would be visible, but this hardly stands out (similar color tone).

What do you think? Would you regret giving up the rounded edges?

In that case, the cut edge is vertical and therefore negligible. Or follow the approach suggested by sco0ter.

Only order finished baseboards if the remaining budget is still sufficient. The additional cost should not be underestimated.

The additional cost for ready-made is about 100-120 EUR, which I still find acceptable.

Yes, for an additional €100, I would definitely choose pre-made baseboards.

So the edges on the sample tile were not sharp. The cut edge would then be placed on the floor. From one tile, he would cut two strips.

That’s true as well, but your waste might already be quite high. On the other hand, the commercially bought ones are also cut from standard sizes, just on a calibrating machine that applies a rounded edge.

For a total of €100, I wouldn't hesitate.

One would probably still install 120cm (47 inches) baseboards where the narrow side is adjacent. That means one baseboard would cover 6 floorboards/tiles.

Really? And does that look good?

I don't see why it wouldn't look good. Otherwise, you would have a joint every 20cm (8 inches), which you could avoid this way.

Also, the pre-made ones have their own fixed length, I think around 60cm (24 inches).
