ᐅ Which tiles did you choose for your entrance area? What options did you go with?

Hello,

we are still looking for the right tiles for our hallway and, like many others, are torn between light and dark options.

Our entrance area is about 10 sqm (107.6 sq ft): 2.40 m x 4 m (7.9 ft x 13.1 ft). The adjacent guest toilet, which is 3 sqm (32.3 sq ft), should have the same tiles as the hallway.

Our current favorite is the tile "Gardenia Orchidea Brickyard Bianco" (just search under "Shopping," links are not allowed here) in either 80 x 80 cm (31.5 x 31.5 inches) or 40 x 80 cm (15.7 x 31.5 inches). It is a very light, matte, cream-colored tile with some texture.

Alternatively, we are considering a dark floor (slate, gray, anthracite, also textured and matte).

The (concrete) staircase will probably be covered with wooden steps, likely ash wood, which is also rather light in color. We are concerned that everything might end up looking too bright if we choose light tiles.

Next to the hallway is the dining room with medium brown wood-look tiles.

Maybe you have some advice or opinions regarding color, size, and maintenance?

Then I would coordinate the stairs with the tiles, as I think having two different floor coverings just doesn’t look very appealing. Otherwise, dusty shoe marks are obviously visible on dark gray tiles; we have light gray tiles that practically never look dirty.

Best regards

But honestly, I don’t think I have ever seen just one type of flooring per floor. I don’t find it that unusual.

Most people have tiles in the kitchen and then hardwood or vinyl flooring in the living room next door. Then tiles in the bathroom and carpet or something else in the bedrooms.

Then you have probably only lived in rental apartments so far. Flooring roulette is quite common there. That’s exactly why having the same continuous flooring throughout is, in my opinion, a sign of quality.

Carpet is quite outdated nowadays with underfloor heating. Only a few types are suitable for it.

He definitely wants to go with floor tiles; they should be to his wife’s liking. He shouldn’t worry further and should focus on organizing the location for his workshop. Smile

Forget dark tiles, especially anthracite. They are a nightmare. Every spot and crumb is visible on them.
The ones you have chosen are already quite nice and practical.

Otherwise, we don’t have a continuous floor covering. In the hallway, there are smaller wood-look tiles, and in the bathroom (the door is usually open), the same tiles but in a shade of gray that’s one tone darker. In the living room, there is laminate flooring in a color similar to the hallway tiles. I think it all looks very harmonious.

Argh, just today we went tile shopping again and are leaning more toward dark gray anthracite tiles.

Reasons:
- Better contrast with the light wall tiles in the guest bathroom (and dark wall tiles are out of the question)
- The light tiles looked boring together with the wall tiles, all too much of the same tone.
- More attractive size (60cm x 120cm (24in x 47in)), the others would be 80cm x 80cm (31in x 31in).
- Darker tiles suit our planned light wood staircase (ash) better.
