Hello,

I would like to know your opinions on the topic of photovoltaic systems.
The plan is for a house with 140 sqm (1507 sq ft) with a south-facing roof.
Is financing such a system worthwhile?
What are your personal experiences in this area?
Do you have to feed the electricity into the grid, or is it allowed/possible to use it yourself?
Are there any special incentives or subsidies available?

What disadvantages does installing such a system have (please don’t mention “appearance”)?

What have been your experiences regarding "electromagnetic fields," for example at the head of the bed when the system is installed in the bedroom or children's room?
It was just a thought I had. A friend of mine has been having sleep problems since installing such a system (it could also be related to her uncertainty about whether the system will pay off or from what point onward).

Our system has proven worthwhile and even provides shade for the bedroom and children's room roof. Everyone sleeps very well. When we are sleeping, the system is not producing any energy because it is dark. No current flows, and therefore there is no magnetic field. And even if there were one, there would be no need to be afraid of it.

You can find the energy performance values of our photovoltaic system on our construction blog. Simply search for: autark with passive house.

Hello,

I believe this should be calculated by a professional. However, I definitely think the environmental aspect is great.

The professional often also sells solar systems and storage units. They have a vested interest in that. You should be aware of this.

We had our photovoltaic system with 8 kWp installed last week. Now we are waiting for the meter installation by the utility provider, then we can start generating electricity!

Photovoltaics are usually worthwhile! Even if you only feed electricity into the grid and have a 20% self-consumption rate, the system pays off after 10–14 years. After that, it generates profit. The modules come with a 25-year performance warranty (87% of rated power after 25 years), and the inverter has a 12-year warranty.

Since we heat with an air-to-water heat pump, I work from home a lot, and we have a large aquarium, I expect at least 30%–40% self-consumption. The system is set up so that the air-to-water heat pump can be controlled via an interface when there is excess photovoltaic power, allowing the hot water storage or underfloor heating to be “overheated.” This means that if there is too much photovoltaic electricity, the hot water temperature will initially be raised from 45°C (113°F) to 50°C (122°F). This allows the air-to-water heat pump to pause hot water production for longer periods when photovoltaic power is no longer available. It essentially functions as an energy storage. The same applies to the underfloor heating, which can be heated slightly beyond the usual comfort range to store photovoltaic energy as heat.
