ᐅ Is it possible to measure the kitchen in the shell construction phase after the interior plastering has been completed?

Is it possible to do the kitchen measurements after the interior plastering is completed but before the screed is applied? The background is that the kitchen has a delivery time of about 12 weeks after ordering. We want to save time accordingly. At the moment, it seems like the kitchen is the only reason preventing us from moving in.

Our site manager advised that it is recommended to take the measurements at least after the interior plastering. The screed is not that relevant, as the height can also be taken from the plans. What is your opinion on this?

That largely depends on the layout of the kitchen you want, and also on how complex it is.

Granite countertops for a U-shaped kitchen should definitely be measured to fit precisely.

If you have an open L-shaped kitchen with wood-based countertops, it’s usually possible to adjust them to fit without problems.

The requirements regarding covering edges or making use of the last centimeter, as well as working with custom-made cabinets, determine how accurate the initial measurements need to be.

We have an L-shaped kitchen with both sides against walls. On the longer side, there is a block of custom-made drawers designed to use every last centimeter. In this case, it was helpful to know the exact installation dimensions beforehand.

We have a U-shaped layout with two sides against the wall and one side freestanding. The countertop is wood-based. We are using standard options, not custom-made. I think that should not be a problem. It is a matter of weighing whether it makes sense to wait, especially considering the long lead time.

The reasoning is somewhat humorous because the deviations between the planned and actual heights are not necessarily smaller. Still, the cabinets are adjustable in height but not in width, so this view is roughly accurate in the end. But I assume you’re not planning to use every single centimeter without any margin?

Ours was also measured after plastering and before the screed (but since we haven't installed it yet, I don't know how well it will fit afterwards )

Are you building a prefab house or a masonry one?
We have a timber frame, so it’s a prefab house, and the kitchen installer was more than surprised that there were NO deviations at all from his plans...
He measured after the plaster and screed were applied, before the flooring installation, but the kitchen was measured again for the granite countertop and glass backsplash after the cabinets were assembled. The stonemason came a week later with the finished countertop. Naturally, everything fit perfectly!
11fant is absolutely right: once the plaster is done, only height deviations can occur, and the cabinets already have adjustable legs...
