Hello everyone,
Is this normal?
We have already requested an appointment twice from one company and received no response both times (so that company is no longer an option).
Then we got a rather short-notice appointment with another company (last Friday). The conversation went really well, and we actually have a good feeling. We were promised to receive an initial (preliminary) design by email by Tuesday. But as of today (Thursday), we haven’t heard anything. When I asked by email when we could expect the design, I was told that we haven’t been forgotten and they hope to prepare the design over the weekend.
What do you think? Somehow, I’m not feeling as confident anymore... What if we actually award this company the contract and then run into problems during construction? Will we have to wait a long time for someone to address issues?
Maybe you can help me out.
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Anja

Bauexperte25 Aug 2011 19:04Hello Anja,
It’s holiday season—what do you expect, or do you seriously believe you’re the only prospective client? For your information, our quotes currently take 1.5 to 2 weeks... considering the time you will spend living in your new home, that’s really nothing, isn’t it?
Kind regards

no need to panic. This spring, we also waited almost 2 months until all the quotes were complete.

it was not due to the appearance. We also do not know why it took so long.

A lot depends on the way you approach the situation. If you start off by causing stress, your request will likely be deprioritized. You should be friendly but firm. Talk to the companies on an equal footing. Avoid putting pressure on them or threatening, like saying "we’ll just build with someone else if you take too long." That doesn’t go down well. I often see this at car dealerships too, where some customers act as if the staff work only for them.
Of course, it’s understandable to be surprised if an offer expected on Tuesday hasn’t arrived by Thursday. I would also follow up in that case, but to immediately say "then we’re done with you" — no, that’s not the way to go. Many things can go wrong during construction, and if a two-day delay on an offer already upsets you so much, then maybe you should reconsider whether you really want to take on the stress that comes with building a house.
