ᐅ Where do you usually buy your plants and greenery? Any experiences or tips?

Hello,
I wanted to ask where you source your plants from?
There seem to be some affordable options available online—are they any good?
Or do you only buy trees from a nursery?

We received a recommendation from friends for heckenpflanzen Punkt de and ordered bare-root privet for a 10m (33ft) hedge there. The website is clear and easy to use, prices are good, and delivery was scheduled for the requested date. Unfortunately, the shipment was sent via DHL, and they messed up the delivery. The plants only arrived after one week, and the roots were quite dry because of the warm weather. A replacement delivery was not possible since the plants had already started to sprout and can no longer be shipped. The customer service representative was very helpful, and due to the delay, we received a full refund. We probably won’t order from them again. We planted the shrubs anyway, but it looks like about 20 out of 32 will not survive. Really unfortunate—I would have preferred to pay and have leaves on all the plants by now.

We only got a few things from the large garden center or the home improvement store.

I’m jealous!
Are they already fully dense? Ours aren’t... Ours aren’t really either. The neighbor has a hornbeam hedge, which is already dense. The copper beech is really late to fill out.
But it’s adding a lot of leaf volume every day now!

But it’s now putting on a lot of leaf mass every day!We have a hornbeam column. It’s already... phew... 6 meters (20 feet) tall with an estimated trunk diameter of 150cm (59 inches), super green... if I had known that, the hedge would have been hornbeam instead of copper beech. But who knows the differences when building a house?!

We also have a columnar beech. We bought it at 4.50 m (14 ft 9 in) and now it’s probably around 5.50 m (18 ft). Today, I want to cut off the top 50 cm (20 inches). The "tree expert" recommended it. That way, it will be less sensitive to wind. I don’t know how it is for you, but ours bends quite noticeably in strong winds.

I would always recommend buying more expensive trees locally and having them planted there as well, so you at least get a guarantee that they will establish properly. When buying from a hardware store, you need to carefully check whether the roots are still healthy, because the stock there is often poorly cared for.
We have at least two large garden centers here; I buy without hesitation from one of them, but I wouldn’t set foot in the other. The latter only advertises cheap offers and must be selling below cost, otherwise it wouldn’t make sense. And the quality is terrible.
What I mean to say is: as usual, it really depends.
