Since March 2011, a new guideline for storm protection on new roof coverings seems to be in effect.
Other builders have apparently already received a letter from Weberhaus with an additional cost offer. Is this allowed, or is Weberhaus required to deliver the work according to current technical regulations? I couldn’t find anything about this in the scope of work.
What do you think?
Thanks for the information,
Andreas

Our roof was specially secured. However, we were already informed about this before signing the contract because our construction start date was after 03/2011.

I would say this is legally justified. Weberhaus could have been unfair and not mentioned it at all. After all, it is the builder’s risk. So, please don’t misunderstand. We were just told right away. And I didn’t find the additional cost too bad.

No! We are building solidly, brick by brick, with a small company.

Hello Gufril,
we received the letter from Weberhaus over the weekend.
Since I helped a friend replace his roof this year (following the new guideline), I think the additional cost is reasonable. It takes a lot of time to securely screw down the roof tiles (especially frustrating if one breaks and you have to replace it :mad).
Since the guideline came out after the contract was signed, I believe it is fair for Weberhaus to charge an extra fee.

Do I understand this correctly that this "protection" is only necessary when reroofing? So, if you have an older building, insurance coverage still applies?

The new regulation applies only to roof coverings from March 1, 2011, onward.
