Hello,
we need a new corner sofa and visited a few furniture stores last weekend, but only to look around without asking for advice. Nothing really caught our eye, and when sitting on some sofas, I could even feel the internal structure. Did you choose a particular sofa or can you recommend a manufacturer? Have you had any negative experiences?
Regards,
Sabine

nordanney4 Apr 2018 21:29I can recommend Ewald Schillig. Great sofas (is that the correct plural?), well-made with high quality, available in different firmness levels, and truly durable. I’m now on my third set, and the first one is still in use (large corner sofa + ottoman resold after nearly 10 years for almost €600).
There is W. Schillig and E. Schillig. In my experience, the quality of W. Schillig is significantly better and probably also more expensive because of that.
The leather of W. Schillig is very high-quality and easy to maintain. On top of that, the whole piece is very comfortable. It's better to buy a good sofa once than to buy the wrong one five times over.

Choosing a manufacturer is difficult. When it comes to leather, I would pay attention to the thickness and quality. You can often see clear differences just from the color samples. It is important that the leather is dyed through and as thick as possible. Nowadays, there are many box spring bases available, but there are good and bad ones among them as well. Test riding helps, of course, and if you can already feel the interior structure, you should definitely avoid it. Otherwise, look for a trustworthy retailer and check out several dealers. Sometimes you get a sense of whose claims you can trust and whose you cannot.
