Hi!

Has anyone here installed a separate water meter for their garden irrigation to save on wastewater charges? It’s not free, of course; I’m curious whether it’s actually cost-effective.

Yeah, that’s possible, I haven’t looked it up. Include it in the calculation. It’s already worth it in the first year.

Just checked, our wastewater fee is 4 €/cbm (4 €/cubic meter)... so it should pay off quite quickly... with savings of only 120 € to 160 € per year on wastewater charges alone...

In our case, the meter must be inspected and sealed by the local authority. There are no additional fees; the meter only needs to be replaced once the calibration period has expired.

A calibrated meter on Amazon costs €20. Plus installation.

Is it possible to install one like that later on by yourself if you buy it? Or does the certified installer have to include it? Surely, the installer won’t be able to offer a meter from Amazon. *G*

For us, it is sufficient to submit the invoice from a tradesperson who installs the device. It must be recalibrated or replaced every 6 years. Just looked it up...

Who should I ask about this? My water supplier or the local municipality? Does the plumber need to include the water meter in the plan, or can I handle that myself? I have heard a bit about this topic before but have never really looked into it...

Does it mean that if I don’t have a separate meter, I will be charged wastewater fees for the water I use in the garden?

How does it work when I have a rainwater harvesting tank (this is mandatory in my area)?
