Hi!

What do you think about this master bathroom layout?

We didn’t really want the shower to be so hidden since we plan to outfit it in a high-quality and stylish way. It would be nice if it could be more visible, not just for showering. But during the plumbing planning, we were advised to keep it like this (because of the water pipes).

What’s your opinion? Or does anyone have an idea on how to create more visibility into the shower?

The two washbasins are marked incorrectly. We will only use one washbasin (1m wide (39 inches)). Our idea is to move the bathtub to where the washbasins are currently shown and place the washbasin on the right wall instead. We want the bathtub to have a prominent spot in the room instead of being “in the corner” when we bathe.

Currently planned components:
Toilet: Duravit Happy D.2 extended version, 25500900001

Washbasin: Villeroy & Boch Venticello 1000x500mm (39x20 inches), 4104ALR1

Bathtub: still considering either Villeroy & Boch Squaro Edge 12 Combipool Invisible (UIP190SQE2B1V96) or a Kaldewei Conoduo, both 190x90cm (75x35 inches) (235200010001)

Shower:
Villeroy & Boch shower tray Futurion or Squaro Infinity
Hansgrohe Axor ShowerSolutions thermostat module Select 530 / 90 for 3 outlets, 18356000
Hansgrohe Axor Shower Solutions 350 1jet overhead shower with ceiling connection, chrome, 26035000
Keuco meTime_spa waterfall showerhead, 59982010000
Hansgrohe Axor Starck 1jet handheld shower, chrome, 10531000

Looking forward to your feedback!

My wife does not want the sink to be moved downwards. Therefore, the solution with the wall chamfer is not an option.

I think that among the options

a) reducing the shower back to 1 meter
b) choosing a bathtub measuring 180x80cm (71x31 inches)
c) making the bedroom smaller

option a) is probably the smallest compromise. I also think that a width of 1 meter (3.3 feet) already feels fairly spacious. I just visualized it in 3D and tend to go with a 100x140cm (39x55 inches) shower tray. I believe this is the most reasonable choice, even though the space between the sink and the bathtub will still be quite limited.

The issue that was brought up earlier also seems interesting again now. One major problem here is that no pipes can be routed through the exterior wall. I think this is due to the Poroton bricks, but I’m not completely sure; I would have to ask. However, this can probably be solved by raising the floor, and there is enough lengthwise space. I could imagine that with this floor plan, it might be possible to fit everything in: a large bathtub, a wide shower, and a sink that doesn’t feel cramped.

Moving the sink is not a requirement, but of course the angled wall has the strongest effect with it.

Voilà.

And you want it to look like in the picture? — not freestanding, but this combination of a “prison shower” — old-fashioned tomorrow precisely because it’s trendy today — with a hand shower next to it?

I guess you use the prison (or, if you prefer, public bath) shower, and your wife is a bit shorter and uses the hand shower?

Keep in mind that the spray reach also depends on the distance between the water outlet and head height.

And it should look like the picture then?

No, I only posted that to show how "open" our shower is right now.

We now have a completely different setup: a ceiling-mounted rain showerhead, a small handheld shower wand, and a wall-mounted waterfall showerhead.

We will either install this in a 100x140cm (39x55 inches) space or use the floor plan I just sketched, if that is feasible at all.

I actually thought you were showing that one – so what does the photo show instead?

To me, that looks appropriate.

Sorry, that was poorly phrased. The photo shows how we currently shower. What I described is the desired layout for the new master bathroom – the "new combination." I wrote nonsense.

It looks suitable to me.

Then I’ll try to implement it that way tomorrow. If it’s still possible, because that would require quite a few changes to the ventilation and drainage planning.

Here is an idea I just tried to sketch.

This design avoids the T-junction that limits flexibility.

The patio door can still be slid open.

Floor plan of a room: bed on the left, toilet on the left, washbasin in the middle, door on the right, entrance.
