House Design
Who Designed it: Architect from a construction company
What Do You Like Most? Why? Side driveway to garage, direct access from garage to house, separate apartment concept, open ground floor design, upper floor is perfect in our opinion, gallery
What Do You Like Least? Why? Living/dining area is somewhat too large (wife worries it may be hard to arrange cozily), bedroom window position in the separate apartment is tricky, (north entrance → long access route for guests)
Preferred Heating System: Air-to-water heat pump + photovoltaic system + battery storage

If You Have to Cut Back, On Which Details / Extensions
- Can be cut: Office on upper floor, a few square meters in living/dining area
- Cannot be cut: Remaining room program

Why Has the Design Turned Out As It Is Now?
The room program was provided by us. Furthermore, many requirements and the plot itself influenced the design.
Why Was the Drawing Created in Sweet Home 3D?
The architect’s design is drawn to scale but not dimensioned, so I transferred it to SH3D.
What Is the Most Important / Fundamental Question About the Floor Plan, Summarized in 130 Characters?

We are still considering creating a children's bathroom on the upper floor. This means the existing bathroom would become smaller, and in addition, a children's bathroom (shower, toilet, single washbasin) would be added.

What additional costs should we expect?

It depends on the equipment, and the architect gave us an estimate of around 5,000 euros as a rough figure.

Shower, washbasin, toilet, fixtures – the additional costs for tiles and sanitary installations are the same.

Are we talking about the design in post #80? I see enough space in the main bathroom, but I still can’t quite picture a good layout for two bathrooms. In practice, I consider "children’s bathrooms" those that end up being cleaned by mom anyway. Water is just as wet for kids as it is for adults, and as a family, I think not sharing a bathroom is a bit crazy.

I experienced it differently. As a family of four, we all had to get up and use the bathroom at the same time. If there had been only one bathroom, I don’t even know how that would have worked.

It worked quite well for us.
Whether to have a children’s bathroom or not really requires a crystal ball.
The period of use can sometimes be quite short.

If all else fails, there is often another bathroom on the ground floor.

In the past, people in our area usually shared one bathroom, with back-to-back use only happening in exceptional cases.
