Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

Thank you, Axel. What are the exterior dimensions of your house?

Hello and1986,

the upper floor measures 8.5 x 10.0 meters (28 ft x 33 ft). The roof overhang is about 0.5 meters (20 inches) all around.

The basement is not finished yet. The sections without a cellar are still missing.

Best regards,

Axel

A basement is being built.....

I was waiting for that information. From this perspective, it looks almost square (and by the way, also more spacious—you clearly paid attention to avoid breaking it up into too many small sections). For that reason, I was initially unsure whether the ridge was "real" or just designed in to avoid a hip roof. But based on the dimensions, it is a consistent slope on all sides, and I consider 23° to be realistic.

There are still additions without basements missing.

What should we still be looking forward to there?

Hello 11ant,

to the south, the extension for the living room is still missing, visible in the following picture to the left of the covered entrance, where the insulation baskets in the basement ceiling mark the transition. The extension will have a flat roof, which will be accessible from the first floor.

To the east, the extension for the study is still missing. The location where the ceiling will rest is indicated by the insulation installed in the east wall in the photo. The study has a shell height of 3.5 meters (11.5 feet).

Best regards,

Axel

Instead of installing the baseboards in the basement, we spent almost the entire day on the terrace today. I’m always amazed at how warm it gets in the unheated winter garden. Today, it warmed up the whole house.

It's just like in a greenhouse. In summer, you open every window and door that can be opened to avoid overheating (and heating up the house). Make sure to install external solar shading!
