Good evening

There is always water standing on our garage roof. In my opinion, the drain is incorrectly positioned.

The architect and the structural builder say this is normal and not a defect.

However, my roofer sees it as problematic. He says mold can develop...

What is your opinion or recommendation?

Flat roof with green roof waterproofing, construction wood remnants at the edge, autumn trees in the background.

Apart from the fact that I don’t see any drain in the picture: if there is always water standing, it’s not a matter of opinion that the drain is misplaced and/or the slope is insufficient.

OK. So, a defect.

Is it from the builder or the architect?

What are the consequences?

Was a drain outlet planned? This is typically shown in the architect’s drainage plan, at least that’s how it is in our case.
If so, the architect is the one responsible, since they also oversee the construction supervision (if this was agreed upon in the contract).

I would say this: I know many roofs that look like this in similar weather conditions and are simply waiting for evaporation. Nevertheless, they still do what they are supposed to do: they remain watertight.

Could it be that both sides are right? Problematic, yet also normal?!

Where exactly would mold develop in this case?

Does the flat roof need to be planted? Then it doesn’t matter.
